Nepal's Journey Towards Zero Hunger -State of Food Security And Nutrition in Nepal 2023

Eliminating hunger is a top priority globally and in Nepal.

Zero hunger is one of the most important among the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Indeed, it is not acceptable to have people suffer from hunger in this modern age. Governments
throughout the world have committed to achieving Zero Hunger by 2030. Nepal is no exception
and has made this a high priority.

While it is important to learn from international experiences and to benefit from cooperation with the development partners, such a program can be successful only if it is led by national institutions, particularly by the Government.

NDRI as an independent organization, is uniquely positioned to prepare such a report due to its demonstrated expertise with its long experience in food security studies and its ability to portray the evidence and analysis with a balanced approach.

In the last few decades, Nepal has made some significant progress in improving the food security and nutrition situation of its population, while there are a multitude of challenges in achieving Zero hunger. This report presents an analysis of the trends in Nepal in the last few decades and the current situation vis-à-vis the regional and global context. It also provides an analysis of various factors contributing to food security, an overview of the challenges, and recommendations for the way forward.

Expected to be released in the first quarter of 2024, the report is expected to serve as an important reference for informed policy and programming in addressing food security in the country.
